CBD Oil for Horses
Why would a horse use CBD?
Horses, like humans, dogs, cats, and all mammals, have an endocannabinoid system. This means they have receptors in their nervous system that help to regulate various functions from hunger, mood, sleep, and even discomfort.
The hemp and cannabis sativa plants are comprised of cannabinoids, including cannabidiol (or CBD), which interact with a horse's endocannabinoid system to help promote homeostasis within their body.
USES OF CBD OIL FOR HORSES INCLUDE:
Joint Support: Horses experiencing joint discomfort from age, over-exertion, or other rigorous activity can enjoy CBD's soothing benefits.
Normal Brain Function: Horses who may have inconsistent brain function and occasionally have convulsions may see support from CBD use.
Maintaining Calmness: Horses can be nervous souls and may find a sense of calm from CBD if they experience occasional stress from weather or other climatic changes, trailer travel, veterinary visits, or social interactions with new people.

Meet Duke!
A 45-Year Old Miniature Horse

“Miniature horse Duke is the oldest equine in my vet's very large practice. We believe he turns 45 this spring—both vet and horse dentist confirmed this "best guess" since he is a rescue. He's been a member of our family for 23 years, making us laugh every day at his cute antics. (Years ago he was the ring bearer in my daughter's wedding and ran away with the ring!)
We live in New England, and as the weather got cold this past fall, we could see he was having a hard time, despite big blankets, leg wraps and various hoof boots, which he dutifully removed every night. (Minis are notoriously opinionated, and Duke has never been a fan of boots.) Several years ago he was diagnosed with neurological issues, and has been on a careful low sugar/starch diet, supportive supplements, medicine prescribed by his veterinarian, and gets a careful correct hoof trim.
But, increasingly he was less alert, seemed more uncomfortable. I had several serious conversations with my vet about when it would be his time to "leave." His appetite remained enthusiastic, but I didn't want him to suffer, and I worried about how much pain he was experiencing. In October we started him on VETCBD Broad Spectrum Hemp Oil, and soon he was much brighter, more comfortable, nickering when he saw us and trying to dump over the full wheelbarrow—his favorite trick. As the snow and ice lessened, he chose to go out of his stall more for short walks and sunbaths. My vet had said if we could just get him through the winter, we'd be ok, and thanks the VETCBD, we've done just that. We call him our little Miracle Man."

Duke Update: Duke crossed over the rainbow bridge on May 8, 2021 in the arms of his loving owner, Donna.
